These were well known sayings to Honcho Runners back in the Seventies. “Ike” the “Master” of the “Snack Honey” was famous for them. I first visited there in early 1973 after reporting to NAVCOMMSTA JAPAN YOKOSUKA . My fellow Honcho Runners and I went there often. Sometimes we were there till Sunrise and then hustle back to the Barracks, get cleaned up, put on our Dungarees and headed to work. After mustering, I would sneak off to a quiet spot and snooze for awhile. By 4:00 🕓, I was ready to get back out there to Ike’s place. He used to say “Gimme A Break/Brake” a lot. One day, one of my buddies, Warren Lauzon, mounted a “brake “ (auto type) on a plaque and presented it to Ike. Ike loved it and mounted it behind the bar. Over the years, I would occasionally drop in and see Ike was still there like before. Apparently, the “Honey” closed a few years ago but I have heard that Ike is still living upstairs. Were you one of his customers?

I saw the Brake plaque many times between 75 and 77 and again between 84-86. I met this girl (a friend of my girlfriend) who had come down from Yokosuka. About a week later, her boyfriend (NCSJ tty repair) shows up. We kinda became friends but I think he was more interested in having someone keep tabs on his girlfriend. When I got transferred to NCSJ in late 75, I roomed with him for a month or two, before I found my own place. He took me into the Snack Honey and introduced to Ike. He pointed out the plaque and told me that he had made it for Ike. I can believe your story as he was pretty stuck on himself and how great he was. We had gone bar hopping in Yokohama's Chinatown (Olaf's and Superman) and he was telling me when he had motorcycle he had made it back to the main gate at Yokosuka in about 24 1/2 minutes. So, I had a 750 Kawasaki and to shut him up, I asked him what time it was and told him to hold on. 19 minutes and 43 seconds later we're in line to get corn dogs at the Honey Bee. FINALLY shut him up. I'm not sure of his name but first name might have been Tom.

CORRECTED: I saw the Brake plaque many times between 75 and 77 and again between 84-86. I met this girl (a friend of my girlfriend) who had come down to Sasebo from Yokosuka.
